Last weekend, we had Haley’s first birthday party!

I’ll admit it wasn’t what I imagined when she was only a few months old but here we are in Heiligenkreuz with our new “friends and family!” We ended up holding the party inside, Justin thought it might rain, it did, good call dad! My mom and I spent the better part of the A.M. getting the cakes ready, Justin decorated the one for H and I worked on the main cake.

H seemed to really enjoy the party. It was mainly adults, including her Oma and Opa (Beth’s parents).

Then it was time for singing and cake! Haley was absolutely shocked when everyone started singing TO HER. She just looked around the room, not sure what was going on.

We thought there would be a “sugar high” but within 30 min. of the party, she was down for a 2 hour nap! I guess that means it was a hit! We had a great time and are so thankful for all the love we feel here toward Haley!

It is a story of highs and lows! We had just finished dinner last night, all together and were playing a bit before bed. At about 7:20 pm Haley crawled away from me down the hall, I watched her go and asked her “where are you going?” She stopped, then started crying and within a second or 2 she was crying hard. I went over, wondering what she could be crying that hard about on the floor. Something was in her hand, I opened it and the wasp was still in her hand that had stung her right on the thumb. Within minutes her whole hand was red and swelling up! We have had an invasion lately of these wasps that come in and sit on surfaces without making much noise, that was the 3rd one we killed yesterday alone! We ran to the Benadryl and got ice for her hand. To make a long night into a couple sentences, we checked somethings out on line, gave her Tylenol, kept her up to watch for a larger reaction and then tried to help her go to bed for the next 3 hours. Our hearts were broken, she was in so much pain!

This morning we went outside the house having talked about where they could be coming from and took a look. With H in the backpack and 2 co-workers we looked and found the nest they were building right outside our bedroom window. We confirmed it with binoculars and I let Justin know! He geared up and got on a ladder out our window to spray them with some “Vandal!” It will probably take a few doses to kill them all but we are so happy to have found them. Haley is doing much better today, she is using her hand and now sleeping for the night, her hand has gone down quite a bit and is no longer red.  It was a parental learning experience!

The day after my birthday a package arrived from Grandma and Grandpa Higgins! We LOVE to get packages! There were yummy graham crackers and other foods in it for me to enjoy. Mom let me open my own present, that was a lot of fun!

On Thursday I turned one! It has been one of the most exciting times in my life so far! It really started with my celebration in July with my Higgins family. So much has happened this weekend, mom says I have to break it up into parts so here are some pictures from my actual Birthday! It was very fun to be celebrating here at the Haus with 50 people who were also excited for me! I got to open one present from my great-grandma Koerner this day, 6 disney guys. I can’t wait to show them to my cousins!Error (ERROR_STORAGE_FAILURE)

This last month H’s hair has grown quite a bit. Currently she’s working on a mullet with long hair in the back that is curling under a bit and shorter hair in front! But I’ve been anxious to get some clips and ties to try out. This morning Justin and I stopped at a store and picked out a few, the pig-tails went over really well…it makes her look like a “big girl.”

This morning Haley said another word, Duck, and it sounded perfect! She’s been working on that one for quite awhile. We saw some yesterday at the park and then she had her stuffed duck this morning and it came out. She doesn’t seem to interested in the baby signs. She’s only done 1 or 2 herself, she just acknowledges us when we do them, which does help create some communication. The other words she’s said so far are: book, blankie, mama, dada, bye bye, she tried “thank you” a few times, dog (or you get some sort of barking noise from her when you say the word) and “uh-oh” which is probably still her favorite.

Tonight I was “cleaning up” pictures and was suprised at what Haley looked like when we went to northern CA to say good bye to the Higgins before we moved and how she looked this last month when they visited:

So much change!

I don’t know if it made anyone really “happy.” I wasn’t that “happy” to be buying it except for the part where she got a small bag of apples and grapes. The food really didn’t make her tummy “happy” later in the day. But, Haley did try her first Happy Meal this last weekend. We tried the chicken nuggets and ended up taking the breading off, the main hit were the pieces of fruit. Of course she went for a fry or two, it’s so quick that they know what tastes best. We were all “happy” about the little toy she got that kept her occupied while mom, dad and oma finished their lunches! A first of many? I hope not.

The package looks so nice!
