watch us grow

It took a few minutes and a demonstration by mom for her to get her feet wet, but once she did…there was no stopping her.

Playing on our bed is her favorite thing to do these days. Dancing on it, hiding from people, jumping etc. She had a great time this last week with 4 added people to watch and join in her fun! She really loves her Uncle Jona and Uncle Phil!

We have the most beautiful flowers along the side of the house, all shades of pink peonies (I think). Last year I took H out for a photo shoot and decided to do it again this year. I wasn’t sure of the date from last year but I took this years pictures 1 year and 2 days from last years. It’s amazing the difference…now I am a mom of a little girl, not a baby! The changes are almost impossible to list, actually they are!

Here are some of last years pictures, June 10, 2008:

Yesterday I got H a new type of potty chair since she was fairly scared to sit on the padded one that goes on an adult toilet. She saw it at the store and went right over to it so I thought we could try it out. Well, today it worked! Her first attempt took awhile, 1.5 episodes of Mickey Mouse Club and 2 sippy cups of water/apple juice but the job was done! The reward (gummy bears) made a big impression so she wanted to try it again tonight, just for the bears. This time, without any warning or a peep out of her, she did her #2 business! We were pretty impressed and she got her gummy bears! She even gave herself a high-five when I was putting her diaper on after the fact! It is a great start and not really something we really sat down and planned…now that she’s excited though, I need to read up!

Tuesday was a hard day for Haley, of course now that I check it out, at least one of her two year molers came in so it’s pretty understandable. She didn’t want to do ANYTHING i offered her, not even go to the park. Since I wasn’t keen on her watching a third episode of Mickey Mouse Club she finally agreed to take her stroller outside and push Dora around a bit. She brought her phone and let everyone she saw talk on it. Ever since she’s known what a phone was the only person who calls her or that she calls is her Opa (her grandpa in MN). She racked up the minutes on Tuesday (hypotheically speaking!). Only 3 more molars to go….

We’ve been here 15 months now and H is finally getting to have some play time with some friends she’s made here. It didn’t matter as much when we first came, although it broke my heart to leave her girlfriends (and mine!) in San Diego. She’s getting so much older now and I have been praying for her to meet some friends that she can interact with and get to know. God provided a great family through TCM (a student and his family) that has 3 young boys, the 2nd one is 3 weeks older than H). We have started to meet at parks, see them at church and do a few family things together that we are really really enjoying! Also, this last week, we had the chance to play with one of the staff couple’s grandson that was visiting from the US. He is only 15 mo. so there was a bit of a difference there but H handled it well, even with a bit of screaming here and there and toy taking. She does so well with sharing even with her small amount of “other-kid interaction.” We are so thankful for the friends she has now and are praying that she can be enrolled in a pre-school in Sept. for 2 days a week!

Last night after a half-bath (the kind where she tells me she might poop so I take her out right away and she never does…stinker!) H joined me on our bed with some books while I relaxed and read too. My reading turned into photography but it was worth it! After reading for about 30 min, she proceeded to clear off the bed, all 9 pillows and two duvets so she could dance. Many times during the clearing process she said her new favorite phrase “skoo me peas” aka “excuse me please” to get dad off the bed. Last night this dance she does was finally named, she calls it the “boinga dance.” “Boinga” in general is used for any type of jumping on beds or trampolines, hence the “boinga dance,” dancing on mom and dad’s bed. There is a video that I will have to get up here of these following events…my pictures are only of the reading!

(yep, H fell yesterday morning down 2 stairs onto the patio and scratched up her nose and lip, it was traumatic but she is already looking so much better today!)

(on a side note) Having just typed this with official H lingo, and having someone tell me today that I was H’s interpreter, I realize that maybe she isn’t the easiest to understand. I have a feeling most parents think their kid is totally understandable and that anyone they encounter will understand them. Maybe I was the only one, but I have been shown the error of my ways…I am the mom, the interpreter, it’s not a bad thing, it’s a privilege!
