h.e.h. & baby brother
watch us grow

Only 4 short months until the 4th member of our family joins us! Things are still going well with me, not feeling sick, a bit tired and a bit of heartburn coming back but these things are expected and a small price to pay! Haley hasn’t really shown an interest one way or the other, we keep having the same 2 conversations over and over. They go like this:

#1:
Us: “Haley, what should we name the baby?”
Haley: She thinks for awhile then always says: “Boy!”

#2:
Us: “Where is the baby?”
H (two answers alternate): “In my tummy” or “In Mama’s tummy” and she points to a tummy.
Us: “What is he doing?”
H’s old answer: “Growing” and her new extended answer: “Growing peppers and matoes!” she is very excited when she says this and has decided that the baby must be growing some vegi’s in there just like she is.

Today H wanted to join me in the 5 month pics:

The floor/chair at the restaurant jumped right up and scraped her head…I think the main thing now will be keeping her little fingers off the scab! It was a bit scary at the time and then she fell asleep RIGHT away so that scared me too, but all is OK and she is recovering! Gotta love the looks from older Austrians who would be way more likely to bring their dog to a restaurant than a child, they loved the crying!

We took H out early in the AM to a local flower seed company for her “2 year pictures” when we were in CA. This is one of my favorites:

It is a big tradition with the family in CA to have a huge 1st Birthday party and since we missed out on having one for Haley it seemed to be the perfect time to have one this summer, celebrate her 2nd birthday and see all the family at one time on our short trip to the states. It turned out to be the perfect Nor-cal afternoon with great food and a great time together. For this party Haley wanted Famous Dave’s BBQ and we couldn’t complain about that! There was playing and eating at first, then we re-took the “grandparents” picture since Oma and Opa were also at the party!

H had a take a bit of time away from the party in order KEEP on partying! The afternoon nap was a must so that she was happy for the later portion of the party. She was exhausted from all the fun. Great-Grandpa Brandi thought it was the perfect time for him to nap too!

Next it was time for singing and candles! This time H got to have both “pink” (strawberry) and chocolate cupcakes, the best of both worlds! She is also getting pretty good at blowing out her candle.

Once she was up and full of sugar it was time to get in the pool where Morgan and Madison (her 2nd cousins) were waiting with Nana and Papa! It was so fun now that a lot of the family “babies” are getting old enough to enjoy the pool. Haley and Morgan were jumping off the side (to waiting adults) and enjoying the pool floaties.

After all the swimming and playing another round of BBQ was in order, so while everyone nibbled, H opened her presents. She was literally showered with love from the family! She got so many great books & toys and almost a full fall/winter wardrobe which was such a blessing! Does she look like she enjoys opening the presents?

Many, many of the guest made quite a trek to get to the party to see us and we are so thankful for that! A great family get together!

We decided even before landing in the US that Haley “really wanted” steaks on the grill and sweetcorn for her birthday party that was planned for the Sunday evening after Justin arrived in the states. I hope she loved it because I know that mom and dad did! She actually did love the corn on the cob and had a corn dog without the “corn.”

It was so much fun to get all the party favors and make the cake once she decided between Elmo and Mickey. It was our first chance to go “all out” since her 1st B-day was in Austria and she didn’t have much of an opinion back then.

After dinner we sang to her, which she seemed to really like and then she blew out the candle all on her own.

Yep, we're all singing to YOU!

Then came the presents. Due to packing for our trip back to Austria everyone had to stick to books, DVD’s etc. She got some great books on being a big sister, some candy, some new Dora underwear and an awesome cookie baking set from Auntie Jen.

I was so proud of H for being slightly interested in the cards that I showed her. I know in the long run she’ll take after me and have a special place in her heart for the Hallmark store :)!

look at that true interest in what it says! (OK it was a pop out card)

Next it was time to start cutting up Elmo and enjoy some “pink” ice cream (H’s favorite). The cake was “pink” again this year (strawberry), not because we picked this time but because she chose it over chocolate 3 times in a row so we figured she knew what she wanted. It turned out to be great breakfast for H and her cousins the next morning too!

I am a sucker for the “hold out your own camera” shots so I couldn’t pass up a chance to take a picture with my 2 year old daughter at her birthday party. Wow, it’s amazing just to say it, 2 years old. We can’t get enough of you H and love you with all our hearts! Thanks to TMom, Dad and the DeBoers for making her MN birthday such a fun evening!

Well, 2 weeks after watching Opa drive the John Deere around and being absolutely against it, she changed her mind. It seemed just fine to get on the tractor with Oma and ride around the big block in their quite neighborhood. Ben and Ayden rode their bikes along side and a fun time was had by all!
